Baba Danpullo tightens grip on Nexttel

Cameroon billionaire Baba Danpullo, President of the Board of Directors of Nexttel, one of Cameroon’s Mobile telephone giants has in a bid to have a tighter grip on the company evicted the Vietnamese General Manager.  Nguyen Duc Quang, representative of the Vietnamese dominant share holder Viettel Global was replaced by Bayi Moise Bienvenue former Deputy General Manager of Nexttel.
According to a release signed by the Cameroonian billionaire Baba Ahmadou Danpullo, the tenure of Nguyen Duc Quang as General Manager of the company came to an end on October 19, 2018. The communiqué runs as follows: “We hereby inform you that in accordance with the minutes of Shareholders Resolutions signed on the 15th October 2015, Mr. Nguyen Duc Quang’s tenure as the General Manager of Nexttel has come to an end since 15th October 2018. Consequently, the daily running  of the company continue as during the general Manager’s absence. At this juncture, Nexttel declines all responsibilities for any actions taken by the latter since the end of his mandate.”
According to a Cameroon newspaper Kalara of November 12, 2018, Baba Ahmadou Danpullo addressed the General Assembly of personnel of the company passing across the same message in the communiqué.  According to Baba Danpullo, the mobile telephone company will hence be managed by the Deputy General Manager Bayi Moise Bienvenue who was named following the proposal of BestCam SA a company which belongs to Baba Danpullo which owns 30% of shares in Nexttel.
For almost four weeks now, the control of Nexttel is in the hands of the minority shareholder. The Vietnamese company Vietel Globale owns 70% of the Share Capital worth estimated at FCFA 210 Billion Dollars. This situation is certainly not a comfortable one for the representatives of Vietel Global  in Cameroon who have reportedly presented the situation to the Cameroonian authorities hoping for a quick normalisation of the situation.
The Vietnamese investor in Cameroon cried foul describing this state of things as an unfair treatment. This is seen in a correspondence addressed to the Presidency of the Republic and to the Cameroon Minister of Justice. This investor accuses Baba Ahmadou Danpullo, President of the Board of Directors of manipulation to put Nguyen Duc Quang who has been General Manager of Nexttel since October 15, 2015 in a very difficult situation.
On the 28th of September this year, two weeks to the end of the mandate of Nguyen Duc Quang, his employer Viettel Global had reportedly informed the President of the Board of Directors of its intention “to renew the mandate of General Manager” and asked him to hold a meeting of the Board of Directors to homologate the decision to renew the mandate of the GM. According to the Vietnamese, instead of respecting these statutory obligations, Baba Ahmadou Danpullo simply waited for the GM’s mandate to run to its end. This situation comes at a time when the two main share holders are battling to have control of the management of the finances of Nexttel.
According to publications on some newspapers across the country Cameroonian Billionaire Baba Danpullo has already indicated his intention to buy the shares of his Vietnamese partner. What has so far characterized the battle between the parties involved is simply the need to have greater control and no party seems to be ready to give up yet. Law suits and maneuvers have taken centre stage as the battle rages on.
