Mami Priscilla Ngwe Achu laid to rest in befitting style

Mami Priscilla Ngwe Achu was laid to rest on Friday July 15, 2016 in Bamenda. Her departure was done in a style that reflected the kind of life that she led. Her life and its activities touched many people and none of these people went away unaffected by this contact with her. This is why in the showering eulogies that accompanied her departure, the deep love that many felt for her was shown in many and varying ways. The fact that she touched the various facets of society from the highest to the lowest was seen in the cross section of those who turned out to bid her farewell.
Mami Priscilla Ngwe Achu

Some knew her as the elder sister of erstwhile Prime Minister Simon Achidi Achu who at the moment is a Senator. The presence of the Governor of the North West Region Adolf Lele L’Afrique equally was a pointer to the fact that her activities touched all facets of society. The National Chairman of the Social Democratic Front Ni John Fru Ndi equally breezed in and this reminded many of the political aspect of her life.

The presence of the President of the North West Chiefs Conference HRH Senator Fon Teche among many others shows that connection that she had with this segment of cultural Cameroonians. Hers was a departure that reflected the type of life that she led. She led a life that touched everyone.
The honourable exit of this lady begs for a brief revisiting of her life. Mami Priscilla  Ngwe Achu saw the light of day on a certain 9th of March 1932; fruit of Pa Gustave Achu Fongong and Ma Elizabeth Makwang all of Blessed memory. She was baptized as a baby by German missionaries.
She attended the Native Authority NA school Santa, where she later on taught as a pupil teacher. She picked up a job in 1965 through the good offices of a family friend Ma Mary Chimunang with the Bamenda Urban Council as a Community Development Assistant. Due to her brilliance she was sent to do a six months Community Development Course at the Community Development Center in Kumba.
In 1971 she was upgraded to a full flesh Community Development Organizer by the then Local Government Service Commission.

Traditional Dances turned out in their numbers
She worked all over Northwest Province with Dutch volunteers, teaching village women skills in child care, Housecraft, Nutrition etc. She had so many hilarious stories as she rode to work every day in those villages on her mobylette.
She was born a Presbytarian and remained one till death. She requested to be buried in the church cemetery. In 1978 she joined the CWF movement at her former congregation at Ntabesi. Due to ill-health, she relapsed for a few years and later in 2007 when she moved to her Up-Station Residence joined the CWF Up-Station Congregation till her demise.
Being a strict, straight forward person, she was always fighting battles of injustice and discrimination for others. This led her to embrace the SDF party at its inception. As a Community Developer by profession, she carried that same spirit to her neighborhood (Ntabesi). The recognition soon came when she was elected as councellor form Ntabesi to the Bamenda Urban Council to serve from 1996 to 2002. Due to ill-health, she could not seek a second term.
She leaves behind five children, eight grand children, two great grand children, a large and extended family that spans from Santa, Baforchu, Bali, Pinyin, Nkwen, Alatening, all across Cameroon and even beyond to mourn her.
