EXHIST University Bamenda Matriculates Batch of Valour

By Fancis Ekongang Nzante

The Experiential Higher Institute Of Science and Technology Bamenda has matriculated the Batch of Valour. This colourful event took place on Friday November 26th at Mondial Hotel in Bamenda. The Matriculating students were  christened the “Batch of Valour” because of the courage they have mustered to go to school under very trying conditions in Bamenda, a town presently rated as unsecured because of the ongoing Anglophone Crisis.

Speaking
during the heavily attended event, the guest speaker Professor Ngam Confidence Chia, Associate  Professor of Diplomatic and Political History at the Faculty of Law and Political Science in the University of Bamenda focused his presentation on Settling for Excellence and Distinction through morals in a crowded and troublesome neighbourhood. This choice of focus he said was influenced by the present unrest which has greatly reduced employment opportunities among other things for students graduating from Higher Institutions of Learning in the crisis affected areas especially in the North West Region where schooling for sometime now is considered a taboo.

Professor Ngam further said he was speaking against the backdrop of a society in which values have been discarded and crime wave is rising geometrically.

The purpose Professor Ngam Confidence said was to tell the students of EXHIST that they had a moral righteousness embedded in them and in the core values of the school. This awareness he said should push them to stand out and make the difference considering the fact that they’ve been given the opportunity to study in an establishment that provided favourable conditions to be well groomed morally.

He admonished the students to put man at the core of all their dealings. These qualities he said would make them to get employment any where in the world.

The Director of EXHIST University Cameroon Mr Ngang Nelson Nche on his part recognised the fact that the University Institute was still far from attaining its ultimate objectives but said he counted on the staff and other stakeholders to make that happen.

Addressing parents who turned out for the occasion, the Director said he was aware of their desire to see their children transformed into better people at EXHIST University. “We wish to assure you that EXHIST will not only impart good knowledge to them but also values that will bestow on the individual the desire to believe in moral values.”

He said for the past two years students of EXHIST Bamenda had to travel to Yaounde for Matriculation and that the euphoria that used to accompany such an event was largely missing.

“We are delighted to see how happy you are today. It is our desire to see that EXHIST University Bamenda becomes fully autonomous from the Yaounde Campus.”

He called on the Matriculating students to remember that the end of any journey always marked the beginning of another. Matriculation he said meant stepping forward to accept the challenges that come with the pursuit of knowledge. “The responsibility to uphold the name of EXHIST in everything you do both on and off campus and to later give your Alma mater honour and fame in the way you practice what was acquired from here lies on you....We are growing with you and we are gradually putting the structures that will propel you to better academic heights....We have grown rapidly in three years. From 12 students in the 2019-2020 Academic year here in Bamenda, we are at a total of 82 students in the 2021-2022 Academic Year. We have sent out two batches of HND and Professional Degree students, we have had our authorisation from the Ministry of Higher Education and the Memorandum of Understanding Mou with the University of Bamenda that permits us to  offer professional Bachelor and Master Degree Programmes.”

The Director further said that the school had extended to other fields apart from Health Sciences.

The matriculating students ranged from HND, Bachelor to Master students. The colourful event also saw the award of scholarships to deserving students and the installation of the Executive Committee of the student’s Union.
