Nkor, Noni Mayor Extends Olive Branch to Disgruntled Youth.
By Francis Ekongang Nzante
The Mayor of the Nkor-Noni Subdivision in Bui Division has stated in a press briefing that the municipality is not going to carry out development initiatives without bringing the youths onboard. He said the Council was prepared to plan and execute all earmarked development initiatives together with the youths. He was speaking shortly after participating at the meeting of Development stakeholders from Bui Division that focused on the Sensitization and Awareness Campaign on the Presidential Plan for the Reconstruction and Development of the Northwest and Southwest Regions PPRD.
Dr. Nchanji Ndi Germanus in this press briefing declared that the key things that touched him during the meeting were firstly that the Reconstruction Process would lead to Reconciliation. The second thing he noted was that reconstruction was going to improve upon the lives of the populations and thirdly that it was going to bring about development in the various municipalities.
Agreeing with Minister Paul Tassong that reconstruction was a process towards peace, the Mayor of Nkor- Noni said Reconstruction and Development would automatically make the population happy.
"If the people whose property or houses were destroyed could get them back, they would certainly be happy and that's already the begining of peace" the Mayor said.
Harping on the peculiarities of the Noni Subdivision with regards to Reconstruction and Development needs, the Mayor said, "we still have areas that are occupied by Non State Armed Groups. These areas include Bamti and Djottin and they make it very difficult for development to go there. A case in point is the distribution of kits to fight COVID-19. We've not been able to touch all the villages because of this. Creating Awareness under these circumstances is challenging and we have not been able to enter all the villages. The roads are also very bad and moving from one village to the other or from the Subdivisional Headquarter to the Divisional Headquarter is always very difficult if not impossible and we have to pass through other Subdivisions to get to our Divisional Headquarters."
In the form of a message to the youths who are involved in the fighting, the Mayor said, they may have a justified reason to fight for their rights but however said he did not like the way they were going about it. He said taking up arms and hiding in the bushes wasn't the best way to tackle the problems they were facing. He further called on youths to come together in groups and talk about the way forward through development initiatives. "The municipality is ready to get the youths in Development Projects. We don't want to plan alone. We want to plan and Execute Projects together with the youths."
