The
video showing the 17 year old girl raped by a military personnel in BamendaLa which has
gone viral on Social Media since Monday has elicited strong reactions from the
Cameroonian public in general.
Informed
about the unpleasant news, the Cameroonian Minister of Armed Forces Joseph Béti
Assomo has ordered for the arrest of the rapist. According to the ministerial
communiqué made public on Tuesday, the “soldat de première classe” Mbita Arthur
carried out this macabre act on the 17 year old Violet Ndikahu by trickishly
calling her under the pretext that he wanted to controle her Identification
papers.The soldier at fault was immediately arrested by the gendarmes and taken
to the Bamenda Military Tribunal".
In
the video the victim declares: «My mother sent me to go and get some water
melon from her shop. That’s where I saw policemen who took me behind the
Petrole station and asked for my Identification card. Since today was « Ghost
Town », the streets were deserted. I told the Policemen that my ID card wasn’t
on me. They told me to go and talk to their boss who was a few meters behind
them. He asked to know how old I was and I told him I was 17. They talked among
themselves and one of them took me into the station. He asked me to undress and
grasped me on the mouth when I tried to scream while I was crying and pleading
with him that he should let me go. He inturn undressed and raped me. When he
finished, he gave me money for my transpor».
According
to on the spot informants, they got in contact with the Commission of Justice
and Peace an initiative of the Kumbo Diocese. Meantime the boy who filmed the
video was hidden in the Alliance Franco-Camerounais which is very close to the
petrole station at Veretinary Junction where the ac took place. The unfolding
scenario is described in the following manner on the whatsApp forum “Edev
News.” “The guys of the Alliance hid the boy who did the video and the bastards
trying to force their way in so Ricardo called the Embassy. They got the
Governor and sand sand entered their garri.”
This
incident is going to damage the already poor image of the Cameroonian Forces of
Law and order which have already reached an all time low in the two Anglophone
regions where the forces are engaged in combats against separatists Ambazonian
Forces.
