Reunification and peace Batches take UB matriculation oath at HTTTC Kumba




Two Batches of the Higher Technical Teachers’ Training College, HTTTC Kumba, a campus of the University of Buea took the Matriculation Oath on Saturday February 6, 2016 at the Town Green Amusement Park in the city of Kumba. 


According to the Vice Chancellor of the University of Buea Professor Nalova Lyonga, it was during the orientation exercise of the two batches that they were given the names Reunification and Peace Batches respectively.

The Vice Chancellor explained that the name Reunification was given to remind the students that the campus was created just after the 50th anniversary of the Reunification of Cameroon. The Head of State she believes was very pleased with the turn of events during the celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Reunification of Cameroon and decided to create the institution. For the Peace Batch, the Vice Chancellor explained that it was given because of the state of violence and insecurity in the country with an intention of letting the students see the importance and value of peace.
With the conduct of the institution which now is made up of some 1400 students, the Vice Chancellor said things had gone on marvelously for the students so far. Attracted by their closeness to culture as reflected in the way they danced, she commented that the teachers who would eventually graduate from HTTTC Kumba would be deeply seated in culture adding that this was very gratifying as there would always be cultural content in everything that they would eventually teach.
The Vice Chancellor seized the occasion to thank the Minister of Higher Education for admitting all the students on the Waiting List and called on the students to exercise patience as they await infrastructural adjustments to take in the increased number. She further went ahead to highlight the importance of mutual respect and tolerance at the level of Religion, culture among other things.
The Higher Technical Teachers’ Training College Kumba it should be noted is made up of 14 Departments. These departments are; Agriculture, Law, Guidance Counselling, Management Science, Administrative Techniques, Tourism and Hotel Management, Electrical and Power Engineering, Renewable Energy, Science of Education, Mechanical Engineering, Fashion Clothing and Textile, Civil Engineering and Forestry Techniques, Topography and Computer Sciences.
In the Academic Discourse presented by Professor Nde Ningo Tumambang, the students were reminded that they were making a contract with the Nation and with their future students to eventually contribute to building the culture of peace. Linking Technical studies and peace, he said scientific studies have helped in the resolving of disputes through Socio economic development. When there is an increased input through development in areas that felt neglected, conflicts are resolved. Conflicts he said had been mitigated through dialogue by providing scientific knowledge or providing content to dialogue.
The occasion was graced by beautiful Choral music and tradional dances from Manyu and Ndian as well as animation by the Zangalewa Group. It equally saw the presence of Senator Mbella Moki Charles and 1st Deputy Seniour Divisional Officer for Meme among many others.
