Elisabeth Medou Badang, the CEO of Orange
Cameroun has said the giant Mobile Tele-Communication outfit is not just a
company but a corporate citizen as well. She was speaking in Kumba on the
Occasion of the Inauguration of the Orange Kumba Branch on the Commonwealth
Avenue on December, 2, 2015. She said the event marked the company’s commitment
to the beautiful and ancient city of Kumba and to Meme Division as a whole.

The event she said was of major
importance to the inhabitants, particularly the women of Kumba reason for which
she described Orange Cameroon as a corporate citizen. As a corporate citizen,
she said the company has for the past fifteen years, been a major contributor
to the economic growth of Cameroon and to its socio-cultural development. She intimated that since its creation the company
has invested, not only in the development of mobile telecommunications and
internet network, but also in the men and women who have constituted the
driving force of its growth over the years and that the company which is one of
the biggest employers in Cameroon, provides hundreds of direct and thousands of
indirect jobs.
In Kumba, the creation of this
new Branch will generate about a hundred jobs she said adding that Orange
Cameroon’s investments in network extension and the setup of new branches were
an eloquent testimony to its constant determination to improve upon the quality
of services offered to clients and a clear indication of the company’s
undisputed presence in the country.

This new Branch the CEO explained will bring the services of the company
closer to its clients and in this manner enable Orange Cameroon to effectively
meet the client’s expectations of better quality services. The Kumba Branch she
said is an ideal venue for discovering the broad range of offers and services:”
from new data, fixed and mobile communications options, to special offers for
professionals, entrepreneurs, small and medium sized enterprises. and our
different tariffs plans; not forgetting, of course, our Orange Money
service. Also available here is a broad
variety of phones, modems and accessories.
In justification of her statement that Orange Cameroon is a Corporate
Citizen, Medou Elizabeth Badang said in the southwest Region, the following had
been done by Orange Cameroon.
The provision of Eighty-nine technical sites, eleven in Kumba alone, to
offer quality coverage to the population;
eighty nine sites dedicated to 3G coverage to enable Cameroonians in
this part of the country enjoy the latest technologies as do their counterparts
across Cameroon; the availability of the 3G network in Kumba since October; a
local partner based in Kumba and more than 20 accredited distributors in the
Region to ensure availability of our products; two Orange shops in Kumba for
enhanced proximity apart from the branch office; a shop currently being set up
in Mamfe and one to be opened in the near future in Limbe; the Buea branch,
inaugurated in 2012 and other shops to be set up in Mundemba and Ekondo Titi in
2016.
Through the Orange Foundation the CEO disclosed that Orange Cameroon had
set up classroom libraries in seven primary schools in the Region, under the
“Education for All” program.
The Orange Foundation has donated an ultra-modern microscope to the
Kumba District Hospital to ensure better diagnosis of ailments,14 motor bikes
to ease travel of health teams between remote locations in the Region during
campaigns to diagnose and treat onchocerciasis and perform cataract surgery
offered free of charge with the support of partners and supported the youth of
the Region by sponsoring sports activities in general and football in
particular, through holiday championships, with a goal to promoting their
development.
Another important event of the day was the inauguration of a Digital
Training outfit at the Women’s Empowerment Center in Kumba. This the CEO
explained was to contribute to empowering women economically and socially
through the appropriation of the benefits of digital technology. “This is the
objective of the “Women’s Digital Centers” program launched by our Foundation
last October and destined to reach 500 women across the country. We are promoting access to digital technology
for women and putting at their disposal equipment and basic software to enable
them better develop and manage income generating activities.
